Critics Consensus

Though well-filmed, Irreversible feels gratuitous in its extreme violence.

Nevertheless, this is serious filmmaking, and Noe is a gifted filmmaker. Rated: 3/4 May 9, 2003 Full Review Irréversible | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Bill Muller Arizona Republic A fascinating study in excess, a movie that seduces and repulses as it explores the merciless nature of fate. Rated: 4/5 Apr 24, 2003 Full Review Irréversible | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Bianca Garner Filmotomy Noé is a director who understands how to cojur up a reaction from the audience, and he understands the power of film. His films aren't always the easiest or the most enjoyable to watch, but I can appreciate the work that has gone into creating them. Oct 11, 2024 Full Review Irréversible | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Yasser Medina Cinefilia Noé, with a disruptive aesthetic, evokes explicit images to point out a text about the irreversibility of time and moral actions, but whose narrative often frequents places that lose the pulse in its model of urban transgression. Thirdi A This film delivers on its intense reputation, offering a gripping and brutal experience. However, the overly ambitious camera work detracts from the overall quality. The cinematography feels chaotic, as if shot by someone casually tossing around an iPhone. Unfortunately, the editing seems to embrace this erratic style, treating it as visionary rather than refining it for clarity and impact. While the film succeeds in many ways, the disorienting visuals may leave some viewers frustrated. There is no reason to watch this pretentious and way over-the-top movie. Noe has a strange obsession with sex and violence... Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Prabudhjeet A Avoid this movie at all cost, unless you are a cinephile specially if you appreciate non commercial cinema. This movie is in the "forbidden zone." Gasper Noe always goes beyond the limit in forbidden zone and make artistic about it. The cinematography actually adds to the realism created by the actors. Also if you Monica Bellucci is your crush, you'll probably sue Gasper Noe. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews
