Critics Consensus

While this courtroom comedy isn't as tedious as actual jury duty -- largely thanks to a very game James Marsden -- the verdict is still out on whether its stylistic gambit pays off.

K W What could have been an exhausting and drawn out social experiment is greatly improved by Ronald’s compassion for others and excitement for new experiences. I was specifically moved by a moment in episode 3 (“Foreperson”) in which Ronald talks about his attempts to bond with Todd despite Todd’s clear social setbacks. He was able to relate Todd’s quirks to the main character of “A Bug’s Life”, and took the opportunity to extend an olive branch to Todd in hopes of making Todd feel more welcomed and understood. Among the many other moments when Ronald’s kind and compassionate spirit is displayed on the show, I believe the show runners made an excellent choice in casting him for this role. What could’ve been a monotonous re-hashing of all the overplayed drama and vitriol of other stereotypical reality television was expertly saved by Ronald’s presence. Finally, a reality tv show with humor AND heart at its center. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review Katie L Absolutely loved!
